Ambiguities and mistakes in 1st printing of B that shouldn't be carried over

Note: those in italics have been addressed in the 2nd printing of DCRM(B)

  • 0D: Replace "Do not transcribe any information that is not present in the list of prescribed sources for that area." with "Do not transcribe any information not present in a prescribed source for that area."
  • 0G3.1: close parentheses in boxed comment
  • 0G6.1: add "Make an explanatory note, if considered important."
  • 1E10: change "and" to "in" in headline
  • 4B11: Parenthetical sentence beginning "(Transcribe the address..." needs a period after "see 4C4.1.")
  • 7A1.2 Third sentence should read "...group together notes that refer to more..."
  • 7A1.4: Edit text and delete footnote to reference online versions of controlled vocabularies (see also App. B (1XX and 655)): 7A1.4. Notes may also be made to justify added entries intended for special files of personal or corporate names, titles, genres/forms, physical characteristics, provenance, etc. Whenever possible, use terms taken from lists of controlled vocabularies when making such notes and added entries. Prefer the terminology used in controlled vocabularies lists issued by the RBMS Bibliographic Standards Committee. [19] Terms from other authorized thesauri (e.g., the Art and Architecture Thesaurus) may also be used as appropriate.
    • [19]These lists include: Binding Terms; Genre Terms; Paper Terms; Printing and Publishing Evidence; Provenance Evidence; Type Evidence; and "Relator Terms for Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Cataloguing. "
  • 7B6.3.3 In example, should be "...Robert Drury’s journal..."
  • 7B17: add "if considered important" (see DCRM(S) for revised version)
  • Appendix B, 1XX: Change text of footnote to reflect online version of Relator Terms: [23] For more information, see the RBMS guidelines in "Relator Terms for Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Cataloguing." RBMS Controlled Vocabularies: Relator Terms for Rare Book and Special Collections Cataloging.__
  • Appendix B, 655: Edit rule and delete footnote to reflect online versions of controlled vocabularies (cf. 7A1.4): Assign as applicable. Prefer terms found in the official thesauri maintained __controlled vocabularies issued by the RBMS Bibliographic Standards Committee -[24] ; terms from other authorized thesauri (e.g., the Art and Architecture Thesaurus) may also be used as appropriate. As with subject headings, assign headings as specifically and numerously as the collection and institutional policy warrant.
    • [24]These thesauri include: Binding Terms; Genre Terms; Paper Terms; Printing and Publishing Evidence; Provenance Evidence; and Type Evidence.
  • Appendix G5.1 In fourth sentence, "Roman" should not be capitalized.
  • Appendix F1: change "The appendix" to "This appendix" in 2nd paragraph
  • List of works cited: Add new entry for controlled vocabularies ("RBMS Controlled Vocabularies: Controlled Vocabularies for Use in Rare Book and Special Collections Cataloging. http://www.rbms.info/committees/bibliographic_standards/controlledvocabularies/"). Delete entries for Binding Terms, Genre Terms, Paper Terms, Printing and Publishing Evidence, Provenance Evidence, Relator Terms, and Type Evidence.
  • Change "make notes" to "make a note" when appropriate (this might not be present, though) [EB 2008.06.29: I think this was changed in 2nd printing, but can't verify at the moment]
  • change (rule 7B17) to (see 7B17), ditto (rules 2C2, 4A2.2, etc.)
